After a 2 month break from the series, I have decided to start bringing the series back to my blog every Friday to inform you of all the news that has happened around our Academy this week. The length of these articles vary based on the amount of news, so don’t be surprised if it inappropriately short or drastically long.

U21s lose 6 goal thriller

Alex Inglethorpe’s young Under 21 side travelled to the Hawthorns on Sunday, but all they came away with was their kit bags following a 4-2 defeat against a very strong Baggies side, which included first team players Graham Dorrans, Zoltan Gera and Matej Vydra. There was some good news to take from the defeat however, as Cameron Brannagan bagged his 3rd goal in 3 games in his new No.10 role and Joao Teixeira scored his 2nd goal in as many games following his loan spell at League One side Brentford. However, goals from Matej Vydra, George Thorne and a brace from Kemar Roofe ensured the Baggies collected all 3 points. The Under 21s are next in action when they travel to Middlesborough a week on Monday. For the full match report on my blog, click here.

Wisdom completes Derby Move

Liverpool Under 21 defender and England Under 21 captain Andre Wisdom completed a loan move to Championship side Derby County on Monday, where he will work with former England manager Steve McClaren. The deal is for the remainder of the 2013/14 season and he is expected to make his debut this Saturday when they play host to Birmingham city.

Interest in Lennon revived

The interest in 16 year old forward Brooks Lennon was revived by Liverpool this week. The American has trained with Liverpool Under 16s in April and has told ODFC news that he “has been in contact with them for the past several months, trying to figure out things out with the E.U. passport and a visa”. He later expressed that “hopefully it all plays out”, which shows that things may be heading in the right direction. Lennon has already scored 15 goals this seasons and represents the U.S national team at Under 18 level. Lennon is also ranked 3rd in a leading football websites Top 150 Academy players and is ranked No.1 in the USA. If the interest is genuine, I for one would love the Reds to sign Lennon.

Chirivella given international clearance

Last night Liverpool Under 18 midfielder was given international clearance, which meant that the new signing can make his debut when Neil Critchley’s Under 18s face Southampton at Kirkby. Chirivella is widely seen as one of Spain’s top prospects and was recently described as “one of the best youth players I have ever seen” by a commentator at the Milk Cup, a competition where he recently competed in. It was thought that Liverpool would have paid £4m to his former club Valencia if he was to play.

Under 18 stars in International action

A total of 4 Liverpool Under 18 players were in international action last night, 3 of the Under 18s played for England Under 17s and one played for the Republic of Ireland Under 17s. Sheyi Ojo, Tom Brewitt and Under 21 midfielder Jordan Rossiter were all in action for England Under 17s as they beat Armenia 4-0, also defender Corey Whelan was in action for the Republic of Ireland Under 17s who beat Gibraltar Under 17s 4-1, whereas new recruit Krisof Polgar was on International duty for Hungary Under 19s against Portugal.
