Hello and Welcome to Kirkby Revisited, a show where I review all the latest news from Liverpool’s Academy from the past. Some articles may be long, some articles may be short, it all depends on what has happened in that week!

Lussey signs new contract

It was reported this week that former Under 18 captain Jordan Lussey has signed a new contract with the club, the midfielder, who has been with the Academy since Under 9 level has found game time tough in the Under 21s this season, but thanks to Craig Roddan’s departure, Lussey will be given plenty of opportunity to fill in at central midfield.

Almeria youngster training with Liverpool

Almeria midfielder Joaquin Fernandez has been training with Liverpool at Melwood and will continue to do so until his 10 day trial is up. The 17 year old’s is linked to Under 21 winger Suso joining Almeria on loan, but nevertheless it will be good experience for Fernandez. The defensive midfielder plays for Almeria B, but is suspended so the Reds thought this was the perfect opportunity to see how good the youngster and decide whether or not a permanent transfer should be on the cards. He has already been capped at Under 16 and Under 17 level for Spain alongside Liverpool Under 18 midfielder Pedro Chirivella. Fernandez was due for a trial any time this season as part of the Suso to Almeria deal.

Under 18s beat Arch Rivals

Neil Critchley’s Liverpool Under 18s beat arch rivals Manchester United earlier today after a wonderful display that saw them come away 3-1 winners. Despite conceding first, something they have done regularly this season, the Under 18s showed great determination to beat their arch rivals thanks to 3 second half goals from Alex O’Hanlon and Jerome Sinclair. With his brace, Jerome Sinclair now has 8 goals for the Under 18s since returning from injury and is looking ever more likely to feature in the Under 21s in years to come. Meanwhile Alex O’Hanlon bagged his 4th goal of the season. Apart from the goalscorers, special mention goes to Pedro Chirivella and Sheyi Ojo, for their impressive performances.

LFC XI: Crump, Randall, Maguire, Cleary, Williams, Chirivella, Canos, O’Hanlon, Sinclair, Ojo, Kent.

Mini-Derby date change

It was revealed today that the mini-derby between Everton and Liverpool U21s which was originally scheduled for December 16, has been switched to the new year and has a new date of Monday, April 14, 2014 and kick-off will be at 7pm and still take place at Southport FC’s Haig Avenue. The game will more than likely be shown on LFCTV. This means that next Monday’s game against Bolton Under 21s will be Liverpool Under 21s’ last game of the calendar year and many will hope a victory will end a very successful year for the Under 21s.
