Hello and Welcome to Kirkby Revisited, a show where I review all the latest news from Liverpool’s Academy from the past. Some articles may be long, some articles may be short, it all depends on what has happened in that week!

Kent Signs Professional Contract

Under 18 winger Ryan Kent has been immense for Neil Critchley’s Under 18s this season and has been rewarded with his first professional contract with the club. Kent is just one of a very good selection of wingers at the Kirkby Academy, which includes the likes of Jordon Ibe, Raheem Sterling, Harry Wilson and Suso. Kent has scored 3 goals this season including 1 in the final of the Milk Cup in the Summer and recently made his debut for Alex Inglethorpe’s Liverpool Under 21s.

Under 18s progress to the 4th round… just

Neil Critchley’s Liverpool Under 18s started their FA Youth Cup campaign away to a tough test in the form of Blackpool on Wednesday 18th December, and it was a pre-Christmas cracker. Blackpool are top of their respective league and have lost just once all season, so the game lived up to expectations. A brace from Jordon Ibe and a stunning solo effort from Sheyi Ojo in extra-time ensured that the game went to penalties.

In the shoot-out, penalties from Sheyi Ojo, Lloyd Jones, Joe Maguire and Harry Wilson were enough as Liverpool won 4-3 on penalties mainly thanks to the heroics of Ryan Crump in the Liverpool goal. The victory sets up a 4th round tie with another strong opposition in the form of Aston Villa and the young Reds will also get the opportunity to play at Anfield.

Identity of Australian ‘Gem’ revealed

Liverpool are close to signing Australian Under 16 player Jake Brimmer. Brimmer, who was first discovered by Rodgers in Liverpool’s pre-season tour of Australia and the Far East was dubbed a gem by Rodgers, with the Northern Irishman keen to bring Brimmer back to Kirkby. When Rodgers was asked about him in the Summer, Rodgers didn’t want to reveal too much as rivals clubs will show keen interest.

Groningen keen to buy Adorjan

News emerged last week that FC Groningen wanted the signature of Krisztian Adorjan on a more permanent basis, after the Liverpool loanee has put in a string of good performances in the Eredivisie this season. The estimated value of the midfielder is £250,000 and if he will sign for Groningen then his contract will expire in 2017 and have an option for a further year at Groningen.

Smith gets first team call-up

Liverpool fans around the world were delighted as Under 21 left back Brad Smith was named on the substitutes bench for Liverpool’s boxing day defeat at Manchester City. Smith who has been outstanding for Alex Inglethorpe’s Liverpool Under 21s since his comeback was deservedly given the taste of first team football, more so as the left back position at Anfield is under scrutiny.
