Hello and Welcome to Kirkby Revisited, a show where I review all the latest news from Liverpool’s Academy from the past. Some articles may be long, some articles may be short, it all depends on what has happened in that week!
Smith and Rossiter promoted to first team
Under 21 youngsters Brad Smith and Jordan Rossiter were called up to Brendan Rodgers first team squad for their Christmas fixtures away to Manchester City and Chelsea. Brad Smith came on as a 60th minute substitution for Joe Allen in the Reds 2-1 defeat away to Chelsea whilst 16 year old Jordan Rossiter was an unused substitute for both games, a tremendous achievement for a player who only made his debut for Liverpool Under 18s last season. Rossiter was also on the bench for Liverpool’s 2-0 win at home to Hull on New Year’s Day.
Roddan returns to Reds
20 year midfielder Craig Roddan has returned to his parent club Liverpool following a month loan spell at League One side Carlisle United. Roddan only made 1 appearance for his loan side as he came on as a substitute in their victory at Tranmere last month. Roddan will bring more experience to Alex Inglethorpe’s Liverpool Under 21s but he is the only Liverpool player who is out of contract this summer and it seems the club have little interest to renew it.
Peterson in talks with Tranmere
Under 18 turned Under 21 winger Kris Peterson is currently in talks with his loan side Tranmere over extending his loan until the end of the season. The Swede, who has started every game for the League One side this season has impressed and that is why Tranmere want to extend his loan.
Coady in talks with Sheffield United
Former Under 21 captain Conor Coady is currently in talks with his loan side Sheffield United over extending his loan until the end of the season. Coady, who has broke into the side following a tough start to his Sheffield United has impressed for Nigel Clough’s side. Coady is due to return to Liverpool after Sheffield United’s next game which is against Aston Villa in the FA Cup 3rd round, but Liverpool are yet to reply to Sheffield United’s offer.
Morgan seals Yeovil move
Liverpool Under 21 striker Adam Morgan has completed a permanent move to Championship strugglers Yeovil Town, after a successful loan spell with the club. The 19 year old only made 3 appearances for Liverpool’s first team and was most remembered this season for his 40 yard effort in the U21s’ 2-0 win over Manchester City. The Liverpudlian has signed a two-and-a-half year deal with the Glovers, and everyone at Liverpool wish him well.
Under 17s tour Asia
Desmond Maher’s Liverpool Under 17s are currently on their first ever tour to Indonesia as they play some friendlies over in Asia. The team, led by Under 18 goalkeeper Andy Firth beat Frenz United 2-1 in front of a very good crowd at the Selayang Stadium in Malaysia. Goals from Jack Watts and Alaster Redmayne secured the victory for the Reds, after going behind through a goal from Frenz United’s number 7 Najmuddin Samat. Despite having only 3 players with Under 18s experience in their starting XI in Firth, Corey Whelan and Matthew Virtue-Thick, the Reds also played new signings Brooks Lennon from the USA, and Jake Brimmer from Australia. Maher’s men travel to Indonesia on Wednesday for their next game in the tournament.
LFC XI: Firth; Travis, Whelan, Sheron, Rimmer; Virtue-Thick, Griffin; Watts, Brimmer, Lennon; Redmayne.
