Hello and Welcome to Kirkby Revisited, a show where I review all the latest news from Liverpool’s Academy from the past. Some articles may be long, some articles may be short, it all depends on what has happened in that week!

Under 18s progress to 5th round.

On Wednesday 15th January, Neil Critchley’s Liverpool Under 18s progressed to the fifth round of the FA Youth Cup with a 3-1 win over Aston Villa at Langtree Park. A wonder goal from Daniel Trickett-Smith and a quickfire brace from substitute Harry Wilson secured an away tie against the FA Youth Cup holders Norwich, in where the Reds face a tough test.

LFC XI: Crump; Randall, Williams, Jones, Maguire; Rossiter, Brannagan; Ojo, Trickett-Smith, Kent; Canos.

Critchley’s boys kick off 2014 in style

Another game, yet another win for Liverpool Under 18s. This time they brushed aside Blackburn, winning the game 5-0 which meant that the Under 18s scored 8 goals in 2 games in 2014. Goals came from Sergi Canos, Harry Wilson, Dan Cleary and Sheyi Ojo, who bagged himself a brace to double his goal tally for the season with 4 goals. A special mention goes to Nathan Sheron who made his debut for the Under 18s in the match.

Canos called up to Spain U17s

As mentioned in the sub-title, Academy starlet Sergi Canos has yet again been called up to the Spain Under 17s squad for a match against Italy. The Summer signing has struggled at Liverpool since his summer arrival from Barcelona, scoring 5 goals this season since finally being granted international clearance.

Ilori joins Granada on loan

It was announced today that Liverpool Under 21 defender Tiago Ilori has joined Granada on a loan deal until the end of the season. Ilori hasn’t made his debut for the first team this season, but has featured occasionally for the Under 21s. Ilori joined the Reds in the summer for a fee in the region of £7m and after learning the philosophies of the football club, Rodgers recognises that he needs game time and has hence joined 9th place Granada.

Under 21s beat Arsenal

Alex Inglethorpe’s Liverpool Under 21s today beat a strong Arsenal Under 21s side 4-2 at Arsenal’s Academy. It was a good one for the Reds as the Gunners included strong players such as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Emmanuel Frimpong and Carl Jenkinson. The goals were scored by Brad Smith, Kris Peterson and a brace from Michael Ngoo.

LFC XI: Ward, Sama, Smith, Paez, Jones, Rossiter, Peterson, Lussey, Ngoo, Dunn, Teixeira.
