Hello and Welcome to Kirkby Revisited, a show where I review all the latest news from Liverpool’s Academy from the past. Some articles may be long, some articles may be short, it all depends on what has happened in that week!
Yesil injury fear confirmed
Rumours started last month that Under 21 striker Samed Yesil has had a re-occurrence of an ACL injury he picked up last year which ruled him out for the rest of the season. Then last week, the 19 year old had his worst fear come true when the physio confirmed he had suffered a 2nd ACL injury which ruled him out for a long period and there are doubts whether he’ll return to his best which in course puts doubts over his future with the club, but everyone wishes him well!
Liverpool Under 19s travel to Mexico
Liverpool Under 19s have travelled to Mexico to compete in a the Guadalajara Youth Tournament which lasts 10 days. The majority of the players are Under 19s and only a few Under 21s such as Jordan Lussey and Cameron Brannagan flew. This is due to the tournament being eligible for players born in 1994, 1995 or 1996.
Peterson signs new contract
News emerged last week that Under 21 winger Kris Peterson has signed a new contract. The Swede has recently found success when on loan at League One Tranmere Rovers and despite his new deal, he is still searching for possible loan moves to improve as a footballer. Peterson has scored the most goals for the Under 21s this season, netting 7 times in all competitions.
Baio on his way out?
The future on Under 21 defensive midfielder Yalany Baio looks in doubt as he has trailed with Championship side Sheffield Wednesday with a view to a permanent move with the club. The Portuguese youth international has found it hard to get game time this season for the Under 21s, making just one substitute appearance for Alex Inglethorpe’s side.
Burke rumoured exit
Rumours has it that Under 18 captain Nathan Burke could be on his way out of Kirkby. Burke, who has netted 4 times this season for the Under 18s started for Tranmere Reserves last Wednesday, so now it is unclear whether it was only a trial or an permanent deal. Competition was always going to be difficult especially when Liverpool signed Pedro Chirivella in the summer. I will provide more on this story when I get more concrete news.
