Hello and Welcome to Kirkby Revisited, a show where I review all the latest news from Liverpool’s Academy from the past. Some articles may be long, some articles may be short, it all depends on what has happened in that week!
‘Under 19s’ complete tournament in Mexico
As you may or may not know, a Liverpool Under 19 side travelled to Mexico to compete in the 2014 Copa Chivas International Scotiabank in Guadalajara. After a promising start picking up four o=points in their first two games, the Reds then slumped in their last three games, losing all of them without scoring any goals whatsoever. After a disappointing tournament, Alex Inglethorpe and his team will be looking to bounce back from this bad experience when they play Chelsea on February 14th.
Under 21s fixture changed
It was announced this week that 3 of Liverpool Under 21s’ upcoming fixtures had been changed. Their first game, which was against Wolves Under 21s, was due to be played on Monday 3rd February, but has since been cancelled. Another date for fixture has not been re-arranged.
Their second game will be against Chelsea Under 21s on Friday 14th February at Aldershot Town FC, the kick-off is at 7:05pm, so it will more than likely be on LFCTV.
Their third and final game is exactly a week later, on the 21st February, when they travel to the Britannia Stadium to play Stoke Under 21s, this time a 7pm kick-off
Under 18s tie confirmed
Also this week, the Under 18s’ opponents have been confirmed for their FA Youth Cup fifth round tie. They will face Watford, who comfortably beat the holders Norwich in the last round, will prove a tough test, even more so as they have home advantage. Neil Critchley’s boys will travel to Vicarage Road on Wednesday 19th February, a 7pm kick-off.
Robinson rumoured return
Rumours emerged from various sources this week that Under 21 left-back Jack Robinson is on the verge of being recalled from his parent club Blackpool in order to solve the left back problem that his an issue at his parent club. Robinson has featured for the majority of Blackpool’s games this season and the games he hasn’t featured in are the games where he was banned. Robinson has been sent off twice this season and has made 25 appearances for the Seasiders, who have plummeted to 14th in the Championship resulting in the dismissal of Paul Ince.
McLaughlin extends Barnsley stay
It is confirmed on Deadline Day that Liverpool Under 21 full-back Ryan McLaughlin has extended his stay at Championship strugglers Barnsley. The 19 year old was initially on loan for a month but after tearing his hamstring, he was ruled out for 4 weeks so both Liverpool and Barnsley agreed to extend his stay. The Northern Irishman has made just 1 appearance for Tykes and when he recovers from injury, he’ll be able to make many more appearances.
Ngoo leaves for Walsall
Liverpool Under 21 forward Michael Ngoo has joined League One side Walsall on loan until the end of the season. Walsall are currently in 6th place in League One and Ngoo will add height to Walsall’s attack as well as goals as the former Hearts loanee has scored 4 goals this season for the Under 21s.
13 year old Serbian on trial with Liverpool
News was announced over night that 13 year old Serbian wonderkid Luka Markovic has started a 10 day trial with the Reds. Markovic’s most distinct feature is his height and this is evident as he appears to come across as a very intimidating forward. He is also lethal in front of goal.
