In a weekly series called ‘Academy Loan Watch’, I’ll be reviewing the performances of all our players out on loan for that week, if you missed the previous episode of Academy Loan Watch then be sure to read it by browsing through the TBT website. The aim of this series is to keep Liverpool fans interested in the players who are not at the club at this current time, but still are in the clubs’ records.
21 year old midfielder Conor Coady again played the full 90 minutes as they were held to a 0-0 draw away to League One strugglers Tranmere. Coady did have a chance to make it 1-0 to the Blades but his header in the 75th minute was close, but went wide of Tranmere goalkeeper Owain Fon Williams’ goal. Sheffield United are now 8th in League One but with the draw are now cannot mathematically qualify for the play-offs. They next play 9th placed Port Vale in a crucial game in the third tier of English football.
After scoring his first goal for the club last week, Michael Ngoo came on as a 75th minute substitute for loan side Walsall as they drew 1-1 at home to Gillingham. In the 15 minutes that Ngoo was on the pitch, he made no significant impact as Walsall dropped to 11th in the League One table. They next face bottom side Stevenage and Ngoo should get some more game time.
Czech Republic defender Jakub Sokolik again played the full 90 minutes for Southend as they kept yet another team sheet with a 1-0 over Accrington Stanley. With the victory, Southend have all but secured a play-off place in League Two and next face a tough trip to 4th placed Fleetwood, who are just 3 points off the automatic promotion places with just two games left to play and Sokolik is expected to feature for Phil Brown’s side.
England Under 21 captain Andre Wisdom again played a full 90 minutes for loan side Derby County as they picked up another win as they beat strugglers Barnsley 2-1 at the iPro stadium. 3rd placed Derby are now guaranteed a play-off place with the victory and next play 12th placed Watford on Saturday.
Liverpool Under 21 starlet started and played 66 minutes as Almeria slipped to another defeat at home to Celta Vigo. The Spanish playmaker took two corners and had one shot blocked in the game and stay 2nd bottom in La Liga. It doesn’t get any easier for Almeria as they travel to 9th placed Espanyol on Sunday.
It wasn’t to be for Tiago Ilori this week as he started and played the full 90 minutes for loan side Granada as they were on the wrong side of a heavy scoreline as they lost 4-0 to Sevilla. His side now lie 14th in La Liga after losing to the Europa League semi-finalists. They next face 12th placed Rayo Vallecano but after winning just once in their last five games, it will be a tough test for Ilori’s side.
