In a weekly series called ‘Academy Loan Watch’, I’ll be reviewing the performances of all our players out on loan for that week, if you missed the previous episode of Academy Loan Watch then be sure to read it by browsing through the website. The aim of this series is to keep Liverpool fans interested in the players who are not at the club at this current time, but still are in the clubs’ records.
Liverpool loanee Andre Wisdom played the full 90 minutes for loan side Derby in both their games this week. Firstly, he played all the part in Derby’s 1-1 draw with Leeds on the final game of the season. Then, the England Under 21 star played all the game in their 2-1 win away at Brighton in the first leg of their play-off game. He will more than likely play for Derby in the second leg, in what could be his last game for Derby, if Brighton win emphatically.
18 year old winger Jordon Ibe came on as a 60th minute substitute for loan side Birmingham as they drew 2-2 with Bolton to beat relegation on goal difference alone. The winger made a significant impact with 3 goal attempts and provided 2 assists in the historic day for the club. The winger has since returned to Liverpool.
Liverpool youngster Conor Coady enjoyed his last game for Sheffield United as they beat Coventry City 2-1 at Bramall Lane. The game summed up Coady’s rise to form as he is assisted both goals in the victory. Like Jordon Ibe, he has since returned to the Reds.
Czech Republic defender Jakub Sokolik again played a full 90 minutes for loan side Southend as they beat Burton 1-0 to keep another clean sheet in League Two. Sokolik has at least two games left with his loan side Southend, and interestingly, they are both against last week’s opponents Burton Albion.
Under 21 starlet Suso saw his game for loan side Almeria cut short when he was dismissed in the 53rd minute for a soft challenge, which permitted a booking at worst. Suso did have a few chances and helped his side beat bottom side Real Betis to rise to 16th in La Liga. Suso is now unfortunately suspended for the last two games of the season, so he may return to Liverpool.
Summer signing Tiago Ilori played another 90 minutes for loan side Granada in their 1-1 draw against Real Sociedad. The 15th placed side are next back in action when they host 16th placed side Almeria, who are of course missing Suso due to suspension so Ilori won’t come up against a fellow Liverpool loanee on Sunday.
