With just four days to go until Liverpool Under 21s start off their 2014/15 season away to Sunderland, the club has announced that the Academy has had a re-shuffle, with Alex Inglethorpe being named as the Academy director with Michael Beale taking over as Head Coach of the Under 21s. Inglethorpe had previously coached the Under 21s from November 2012 until May 2014, leading his side to consecutive semi-finals. However, the 42 year old will be responsible for making sure that Brendan Rodgers’ philosophy is taught right the way down the youth levels, so the Reds’ Academy can play the way that the first team have done so making the transition from Under 21 to first team level much smoother.

As mentioned before, Michael Beale, who worked alongside Inglethorpe last season, takes over as the Under 21s Head Coach. Beale, like first team manager Brendan Rodgers has previously worked with Chelsea and their youth setup before moving to Merseyside in 2012. Since then, Beale has worked closely with the Under 15s and Under 16s before working with the Under 21s in the 2013/14 season.

There is also a new addition to the Academy staff with Nick Marshall joining as the Head of Academy Football Operations. Marshall is someone who joins with a wealth of experience having worked with teams such as Barnsley, Leeds, Nottingham Forest and more recently the FA. Marshall is also a holder of the UEFA Pro License. His roles will include working in Player Recruitment and Coaching Support.
