It was confirmed on Friday that Liverpool Under 21s attacking midfielder Joao Carlos Teixeira has joined Championship side Brighton & Hove Albion on a season long-loan, and it doing so, will link up with former Liverpool defender Sami Hyypia, who took over as Brighton manager in the summer.
Teixeira, 21, made his breakthrough into the first team last season, coming on as a late substitute in the 3-2 win away at Fulham in February and needed game time in order to improve his chances of a permanent breakthrough. His chances will be of course limited this season with the editions of Adam Lallana, Emre Can and Lazar Markovic, so the best option for Teixeira was to send him out on loan, and Brighton were more than happy to take him on board.
The Portugal Under 21 playmaker met up with his squad in the midlands last night, and is available for selection in today’s game against Birmingham City. Teixeira has found opportunities limited since arriving from Sporting Lisbon in 2012, often being overlooked in favour of the younger players and at 21 years of age, the upcoming season will be crucial for Teixeira and it may possibly define his career. The Portuguese midfielder is not new to playing in the Football League having spent a month on loan with newly promoted Brentford last season, but Teixeira has never played in England’s second tier of football. Teixeira scored 5 times for Liverpool Under 21s last season and will be hoping to make a bigger impact on the South coast.
