Liverpool today confirmed that defender Tiago Ilori has joined Ligue 1 side Bordeaux for the duration of the 2014/15 season, after reports emerged last week in the French clubs interest for the Portuguese defender. The 21 year old has found game time very difficult since his arrival from Sporting Lisbon on deadline day in 2013, meaning game time is what is best for his development especially at that crucial age. Ilori would have fallen further down the pecking order with the addition of Dejan Lovren in the summer. The central defender spent the latter half of last season on loan at La Liga side Granada, where he memorably helped his side keep a clean sheet against Barcelona.
Ilori joins a Bordeaux side that have just come off the back of a 4-1 win over Ligue 1 runners-up AS Monaco and having beat the 2012 Champions Montpellier in the opening game of the season, confidence is very high in the Bordeaux camp and it is likely that Ilori will join up with the squad in time for Willy Sagnol’s sides next game against Nice on August 23.
