Another week, another action packed weekend of football for Liverpool FC’s loaners. In all, 8 out of the 10 loanees played. Out of those 8 players, 7 of them helped their side avoid defeat with only Rafa Paez’s Bologna losing.
To start off the in the Premier League and it was a very quite weekend for loan stars Oussama Assaidi and Sebastian Coates. Assaidi was an unused substitute in Stoke’s 2-2 draw with QPR whereas Coates was not even in the Sunderland squad for the goalless draw with Burnley, and will be hoping to make his debut when the Black Cats host Swansea. However, Andre Wisdom played the full 90 minutes and was impressive in West Brom’s 1-0 win at Spurs. The Baggies will be looking to pick up back-to-back wins when they welcome Burnley to the Hawthorns on Sunday 28th September.
In the Championship, a goal from 18 year old Jordon Ibe helped Derby draw 2-2 with managerless Cardiff. Ibe came on as a 53rd minute sub and converted his chance just 8 minutes later. The England Under 19 international had a chance of his own before creating one for Craig Bryson in the 93rd minute. Elsewhere, Joao Teixeira played 63 minutes in Brighton’s 0-0 draw with Blackpool, but it was an eventful hour for the Portuguese playmaker. He created chances for Bruno, Adrian Colunga and Jake Forster-Caskey but did commit 2 fouls. Brighton face their toughest test next week when they face table toppers Nottingham Forest.
In League 1, Brad Smith played the full 90 minutes as his Swindon Town side won 5-2 at home to Sheffield United. The Australian left-back had a quiet game, but did set up Jonathan Obika’s goal in the 58th minute to make it 3-0.
Smith will be looking to build on his performance when Swindon travel to League One newboys Barnsley.
In Europe now and Luis Alberto played 67 minutes for Malaga as they drew 2-2 with Espanyol. However, the 22 year old set up the equaliser in the 53rd minute when his cross was met by the head of Ignacio Comacho. Earlier in the game, Alberto had a shot on goal before turning provider for Juanmi, but neither him or Alberto could convert their chances. Malaga next face Getafe on Sunday 28th September with an 11am kick-off UK time.
Staying in Spain and Iago Aspas was an unused substitute in Sevilla’s 3-1 win over Cordoba. Sevilla’s next game in huge as they travel to 3rd placed Athletico Madrid which sees two of the top three teams in La Liga face each other.
In Ligue 1 and Tiago Ilori was not in Bordeaux’s match day squad for their 2-1 win against Evian on Friday night due to an injury. He will be aiming to return for Bordeaux’s next game with Rennes on Sunday 28th September.
Also, Divock Origi started on the bench and came on as a 60th minute substitute in Lille’s 0-0 draw at Montpellier. The unbeaten side next face Claude Makelele’s Bastia on Saturday 27th September.
Finally, in Serie B Rafa Paez started in Bologna’s 2-0 defeat to Crotone.
