According to various media outlets, Liverpool are interested in Real Madrid’s teen sensation Jack Harper, but who is he? Brendan Rodgers has always been keen to build for the future, so it’s no surprise that the Reds are linked with 18 year old Harper.

The Scottish youth international has impressed since joining Real Madrid, and that is why Liverpool , amongst other Premier League clubs are keen to bring this prized asset to Merseyside. The forward moved to Madrid when he was just 13 years old after the La Liga giants narrowly beat Sevilla to his signature, and since Harper is a lifelong Real Madrid fan, then there was no issues in him signing for ‘Los Bloncos’. Like most young footballers, Harper is extremely versatile, and can play down the middle, as well as on the left and right flanks.

Harper clearly possesses a range of talents including creativity, intelligence and pace, but his goalscoring is something that he is most indentified for. Although he currently plays for the Juvenil ‘A’ side this season, the Scotsman scored 25 goals for the Juvenil ‘B’ side, coached no other than the former Liverpool forward Fernando Morientes.

Next season, many expect him to make the step up to Castilla, coached by Real Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane, which will all be good experience for teenager Harper. What made the clubs such as Liverpool so interested in him was his performance in Real Madrid’s UEFA Youth League match with Basel. Although Madrid only won 2-0, Harper was involved in both goals. His header opened the scoring for the Spanish side which his acrobat over-head kick started the move for the second goal, as his effort smashed off the crossbar before falling to one of his team-mates to double their goal tally. The Reds will of course get to see Harper in action when Real Madrid visit Langtree Park in October and it will be a good test for both Harper and his potential new team-mates.

Despite signing a five-year deal which will keep him at the club until he is 21 years of age, Liverpool are still keen on getting their man, even if it is for a fee.
