Rayan Souici is the latest youngster to be linked with a move to Liverpool. Although the transfer window in England does not open until 3 January, Brendan Rodgers is moving quick to secure a long-term future for his side. Souici, 16, has attracted interest from a host of Premier League clubs, but the Reds want to win the race for his signature.
Souici is a midfielder that currently plays for Ligue 1 side Saint Etienne and like many other talented youngsters, plays for his national side, where he plays for their Under 16 side, featuring six times. For Saint-Etienne, Souici plays as a defensive midfielder, something that has been an issue for the Reds in recent years ever since Xabi Alonso left the club. Steven Gerrard has filled in that role with Lucas rotating in front of the defence as well. However with Gerrard entering the back end of his career, and with Lucas being linked with moves away from Merseyside, this presents a great opportunity for the Reds to nurture this young talent to eventually replace Gerrard in the centre of midfield.
As well as gaining the interest of Manchester City, Arsenal and of course Liverpool, Souici attracted scouts from fellow Ligue 1 side Monaco. The Ligue 1 runners up also made a formal offer for the starlet, but Saint-Etienne turned it down as they reportedly wish to push a move through to a Premier League side, something that the player also wants.
Souici has openly confessed he looks up to fellow Frenchman Paul Pogba. He has already started taking the steps which Pogba took, and will he carry it on by moving across to Channel like the Juventus star. If Souici has half of the career than Pogba did, then whoever will buy him will more thank likely have a good player on their register.
