Callum Nicholas was again on the scoresheet as Liverpool Under-18s beat Warwick University 4-2 at the University.

The hosts took the lead in the first half when Alex Roberts fired past Shamal George from close-range in front of a large crowd gathered at the University’s training pitches. At half-time, there was no expectation of a vast amount of goals, even though both sides attacked in search of chances.

In the 50th minute, Liverpool responded well. Australian midfielder Jake Brimmer, who made his comeback from injury recently, set up the in-form Toni Gomes, who tapped in to carry on his impressive goalscoring form which has seen him score 3 goals in the last two games.

Liverpool’s joy was shortlived though. Mark Claremont found himself free inside the Reds’ penalty area, and he made no mistake, poking it beyond George to restore Warwick’s lead in the match.

Yet again, Liverpool responded with another equaliser. Yan Dhanda’s free-kick was perfectly waited into the danger area and captain Tom Brewitt rose above the rest to head home Liverpool’s second goal of the game.

Nicholas then put the Reds ahead for the first time in the match. The former Manchester United starlet carrying on from his goalscoring form after netting the winner in the 3-2 win against Derby last week. Today, he scored to make it 3-2, when he was played in by Liam Griffin, who was making his first appearance for Neil Critchley’s side since suffering a broken ankle last season.

Another player making their comeback from a long-term injury was Brad Garton. The second half substitute sealed the points for the Reds from the penalty spot to make it 4-2 after he was adjudged to have been fouled by Luke Simpson.
