Liverpool are understood to be in talks with Brazilian side Internacional over the availability of their midfielder Allan Rodrigues de Souza. Allan, 18, impressed the Reds’ scouts when he played against Liverpool in the Frenz International Cup in the Far East last season. The South American starlet’s representatives are in talks with the Premier League side, with a £500,000 price tag put on his head.
The midfielder is reported to be uneligible for a work permit in the UK because he is only 18 years old and has not represented Brazil at a senior level. This means that a loan move to Merseyside is still a possibility, but the Reds want to sign him on a permanent basis.
Brazilian media outlet UOL have run a story that Liverpool have already signed him, but there has been no official word from either club. Their have also been reports that Liverpool’s Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva is full of praise of the possibility of signing Allan. He reportedly told Radio Guaiba: “I know Allan. Little professional experience, but if Liverpool are signing him, he has quality.”
Brendan Rodgers has already signed five youngsters to bolster the Academy sides in this transfer window, and wants Allan as the club’s sixth signing. The Reds have already added Paulinho and Elijah Dixon-Bonner to their midfield for the upcoming season and with the addition of another central midfielder, it could prove to be strong competition for places.
His style is that of an intellegent footballer, which is why he has been dubbed a wonderkid. Allan is a left-footed midfielder with quick feet, good skill and a lot of pace. However, he doesn’t shy away from a tackle and has the ability to find the back of the net if required.
Allan and the Reds’ new signings will join talented youngsters such as Ryan Kent, Harry Wilson, Sheyi Ojo and Cameron Brannagan, who impressed with Liverpool’ U21 side last season.
