Lloyd Jones has signed for League One side Blackpool on a youth loan from Liverpool. Jones, 19, is the captain of the Reds’ U21 side. It will be the youngster’s third loan spell in the Football League after spending time with League Two sides Cheltenham Town and Accrington Stanley last season.
Jones previosuly represented Wales at U16 and U17 level, but represented England at U19 and now plays for the Three Lions’ U20 side, where he has featured four times. He played 30 minutes for the Seasiders in their pre-season friendly against Lancaster, which was abandoned due to protests about Blackpool’s owner Karl Oyster. Many Blackpool fans were impressed with his leadership skills and are excited to see him feature in League One.
Jones was handed the number 51 by manager Brendan Rodgers last season, but the club have loaned him out to build on the 17 games he played in League Two. The defender was an unused substitute for the first team in their win over Fulham in May 2013. The towering centre-half has played 57 games since his move from Plymouth Argyle, and has scored once, that goal coming when he was on loan with Accrington Stanley.
Jones joins his U21 team-mates Kevin Stewart, Jordan Williams and Danny Ward who have all been loaned out to gain first team experience.
