Sergi Canos has signed for Championship side Brentford on-loan from Premier League side Liverpool. Canos, 18, signed for the Reds from Barcelona is 2013, and has been a regular in Michael Beale’s U21 side this season. The club has sent him to West London to get more first-team experience and continue his development as a footballer.
Canos joins a Brentford sit who currently sit in 18th place, having won one of their opening four games under new manager Marinus Dijkhuizen. The Dutchman is adapting to life in the Championship after taking over from Mark Warburton, who guided the Bees to the play-offs last season.
The Spaniard sign for the Reds as a striker, but has played out on the wing in recent seasons, although he still can play as a no.9 if required. Canos has played 19 games in the U21 Premier League for Liverpool, and has scored two goals with four assists. The winger has also played in the UEFA Youth League and in his six games in that competition, he has scored once with three assists. Canos has represented Spain at U16 and U17 level, making a combined nine appearances, scoring two goals.
Speaking about the move, Dijkhuizen is excited by the signing of Canos as he will him more competitition for places in the side. He told Brentford’s official website: “Sergi [Canos] is very good technically and is a quick attacking player. He gives us an extra option on the wings. He is young and talented and we will be able to help his continued development by giving him a chance to train and play at Championship level.”
Canos is the 11th Liverpool U21 player to leave on loan this season, but will have to wait until after the international break to make his debut for the club.
