Callum Nicholas scored his first goal of the season on his comeback from injury as Liverpool U18s come from behind to beat Stoke 3-1 in the U18 Premier League on Tuesday afternoon. With the U21s featuring in the evening, Neil Critchley was without key players such as Adam Phillips, Toni Gomes, Shamal George, Ovie Ejaria and Corey Whelan. Despite this, after going 1-0 down, Liverpool responded through Nicholas, an own goal, and a seventh goal of the season for Ben Woodburn to move within a point of league leaders Man City.

After the game, manager Critchley was pleased with his team’s performance and singled out praise for striker Nicholas, who made his first appearance since pre-season. He told liverpoolfc.com: “We played really well and it was a deserved victory for us. Callum came off the bench after injury and we were delighted to see him get his goal. He played well and deserved that. We were 1-0 down at half-time, but we stepped it up in the second half and played some great football. We got a bit of fortune for our equaliser, but Ben [Woodburn] scored again with a great finish. We have another game at Sunderland on Friday so we will get ready for that and go again.”
