Neil Critchley’s Liverpool U18s will face Arsenal in the FA Youth Cup quarter-finals after the Gunners beat Coventry City in a dramatic penalty shoot-out at the Ricoh Arena. Liverpool booked their place into the last eight with a 2-1 win at Nottingham Forest, with Adam Phillips scoring a 92nd minute winner. They will face Arsenal for the first time this season when they travel to the Emirates Stadium for a place in the semi-finals, where they will face Man City or Norwich should they win.
Prior to the victory against Nottingham Forest, Liverpool U18s had beat both Ipswich Town and Cardiff City on their route to the quarter-finals. The Reds have also qualified for the final stage of the U18 Premier League, and will finish the group stage in third place behind Manchester City and Everton.
They will face an Arsenal side who are currently sixth in the South Division of the U18 Premier League, but are just three points off third-placed Fulham. A win in their final game of the season at North London rivals Tottenham will see them qualify for the final stage, where they may face Liverpool.
After beating Coventry 4-2 on penalties after it finished 2-2 after extra time, Arsenal have also beaten Swansea City 3-1 in the fourth round and picked up a 4-1 win at home to West Brom in the third round.
The quarter-final tie will be on Saturday 27 January at the Emirates Stadium. Kick-Off will be at 7pm.
