Liverpool’s Academy has had yet another busy week, as the season enters the final quarter. The U21s remained unbeaten in there two fixtures, whilst the U18s did not feature after their exit from the FA Youth Cup. As the season draws to a close, the Reds have been linked with a host of new signings. Here’s the full round-up.
Liverpool U21s hold Manchester United To 1-1 Draw
Jerome Sinclair scored his 12th goal of the season as Michael Beale’s Liverpool U21s drew 1-1 with second-placed Manchester United in the U21 Premier League on Friday. The Reds played a strong side including Martin Skrtel, Steven Caulker and Jordon Ibe, but failed to hold onto their 50th minute opener when James Weir equalised in the 74th minute. Liverpool travel to West Ham on Wednesday looking for another win.
Liverpool To Hand Trial to Jacob Njoku
Jacob Njoku is set to have a trial with Liverpool once his contract with Al Oruba in the UAE runs out next month, according to his agent. The striker. 18, was once on the books at FC Porto and has been closely monitored by the Reds’ scouts. It is also reported that Lallianzuala Chhangte and Jerry Mawia have gone to the Reds’ academy base in Kirkby for a trial after leaving the club’s Indian football academy. Chidera Ejike is the fourth youngster to be reported to have a trial with the Reds as Liverpool step up their summer recruitment programme.
Liverpool Midfielder Pedro Chirivella Signs New Long-Term Contract
Pedro Chirivella has signed a new long-term contract at Liverpool, which will keep at Anfield until June 2020. The midfielder, 18, signed from Valencia in 2016, and has progressed from the U18s to the first team, making his debut in the Europa League against Bordeaux in September. After featuring in four games for Jurgen Klopp’s side, the manager has seen enough quality to hand him a new deal.
Liverpool U21s Beat Middlesbrough 3-2 After Sheyi Ojo Hat-Trick
Sheyi Ojo scored a hat-trick as Liverpool U21s beat relegation-threatened Middlesbrough in the U21 Premier League. Anrel Jakupovic scored twice for the visitors and looked to have earned his side a point with a penalty in the 76th minute to make it 2-2. However, after scoring a brace against Middlesbrough in the return fixture, Ojo went one better and claimed a memorable hat-trick. The winning goal came from the penalty spot in the last minute, just like he did in their 2-1 win against the same opponents in February.
Liverpool Linked With Pre-Contract Agreement for Barcelona Starlet Sergio Gomez
Sergio Gomez is the latest youngster from La Masia to be linked with a move to Liverpool in recent seasons. The Reds have already signed Sergi Canos and Bobby Adekanye from Catalunya, as well as bringing in Pedro Chirivella from Valencia. Gomez, 15, cannot sign a contract with Barcelona yet, so Liverpool are eager to sign a pre-contract agreement so that he moves to the Kirkby Academy on his 16th birthday in September.
