Andre Dozzell is the latest youngster to be linked with a move to Premier League side Liverpool. The Ipswich Town starlet, 16, is the current captain of England’s U17s, and if he moves on the Tractor Boys will receive £1.5m in compensation. It is being reported that Liverpool are leading the race ahead of Tottenham and Arsenal for the midfielder’s signature.
Liverpool scouts have reportedly watched Dozzell, so of former Spurs midfielder Jason, this season and are keen to bring him to the Kirkby Academy.
The key factor in his potential move would be to work with Jurgen Klopp, who has a good history with embedding youngsters into the first-team squad. In recent seasons, there have been 15 players from the U21s who have made their first-team debut, with both Sheyi Ojo and Kevin Stewart making their Premier League debuts at the weekend.
Dozzell plays for Ipswich’s U18s side, but has yet to feature for the U21s. However, he was on the substitutes bench for Mick McCarthy’s first-team in their 1-0 win against Nottingham Forest at Portman Road last month. Dozzell’s rise had led to him being a constant figure in the England youth sides. After making his England U16s debut in August 2014, he made two appearances before making his debut for the U17s almost a year later.
The young lions’ captain has scored twice in nine appearances for his country.
Should he move to Liverpool, it will allow Adam Phillips to move into the U21s, with Liam Griffin departing the club this week, it frees up another central midfield spot in the Kirkby Academy. However, with Tottenham in the race, and Dozzell Sr having played for Spurs in his playing days, that may be a key factor in his future.
