Ryan Sessegnon is reportedly in the middle of a battle between Liverpool and Arsenal for the Fulham youngster’s signature. The midfielder, 15, has impressed for Fulham’s U18s this season, and has been scouted by both the Gunners and the Reds. It is reported that Liverpool and Arsenal are in a two-horse race for Sessegnon, dubbed ‘a young Gareth Bale’.
Sessegnon is the captain of England U16s and plays alongside Liverpool midfielder Elijah Dixon-Bonner. Arsenal did attempt to sign the defender in January, but could not sign him despite offering Fulham £3m and Serge Gnabry.
Liverpool have a good history in taking players from Arsenal’s academy, with U18 youngsters Ovie Ejaria and Michel Parker both moving from North London last season.
Liverpool recently travelled to face Sessegnon’s Fulham U18s side, where the Reds won 5-1 in the Premier League play-offs.
Arsenal are also heavily interested in signing Leicester left-back Ben Chilwell, but they too had their offer rejected as Arsene Wenger’s side enjoyed very little success in the transfer window.
Sessegnon is the latest youngster to be linked with a move to the Reds, after Andre Green, Regan Charles-Cook, Andre Dozzell and Abdallah Aberkane have all been targetted in recent weeks.
