Liverpool U18s saw their Premier League title hopes all but come to an end at the weekend, suffering their third defeat in five play-off games. However, they did beat Merseyside rivals Everton in convincing fashion as players such as Adam Phillips continued to thrive. Elsewhere, the U21s played out a draw in a friendly, whilst the Reds have been linked with the captains of both the England U16s and the U17s. Here’s this week’s Academy Round Up:
Liverpool U18s Suffer 2-0 Defeat to Man City
Liverpool U18s’ Premier League title hopes are all but over after they lost 2-0 to the league leaders Manchester City in their last league fixture at the Kirkby Academy on Saturday afternoon. Goals from Manuel Garcia and Lukas Nmecha put Jason Wilcox’s side six points clear of the Reds with a game in hand, meaning that Neil Critchley’s side will have to win both of their remaining matches and hope City lose their final three. The U18s next face a winless West Ham at the weekend.

Liverpool U21s Draw 0-0 With Fleetwood Town
Liverpool U21s were left to rue their missed opportunities as they played out a goalless draw with Fleetwood Town at the Kirkby Academy on Thursday afternoon. Michael Beale named a strong side, with Joao Teixeira, Cameron Brannagan and Jerome Sinclair all starting. Teixeira hit the crossbar in the best chance for the Reds, whilst Ryan Kent and Sinclair both went close, but Fleetwood held on for a consecutive 0-0 draw with Liverpool after the stalemate in December.

Liverpool Amongst Clubs Interested In Fulham Youngster Ryan Sessegnon
Ryan Sessegnon is reportedly in a tug-of-war between Liverpool and Arsenal as both clubs battle for the defenders signature. The left-back, 15, plays for Fulham U18s and is captain of England’s U16 side. Dubbed ‘the next Gareth Bale’, both the Reds and the Gunners are keen to sign him for their U18s sides next season.

Liverpool Leading The Race To Sign Ipswich Town Starlet Andre Dozzell
From one transfer story to another. Liverpool are ‘leading the race’ to sign Ipswich starlet Andre Dozzell as Alex Inglethorpe plans his Academy summer shake-up. Dozzell, 16, is the son of former Spurs midfielder Jason, and captains England’s U17 side. The midfielder has featured for the U21s this season, and scored on his full debut in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Sheffield Wednesday. The Tractor Boys may receive up to £1.5m in compensation should he leave Suffolk.

Liverpool U18s Thrash Merseyside Rivals Everton To Make It Back-To-Back Wins
Adam Phillips scored in his third consecutive mini-Merseyside derby and Liverpool U18s kept their slim Premier League title hopes alive with a 4-0 win at neighbours Everton. Phillips opened the scoring in the 33rd minute before Herbie Kane made it two goals in as many games with a pinpoint free-kick two minutes after half-time. Ben Woodburn made it 3-0 with a goal out of nothing before captain Trent Alexander-Arnold sealed the three points from the penalty spot after Phillips was brought down.
