Tom Brewitt has signed a new contract with Liverpool as 11 of his team-mates at the Kirkby Academy are released as the Reds prepare for the new season. Elsewhere, U18s striker Toni Gomes and U21s forward Taiwo Awoniyi have been on international duty, whilst a former Academy star has moved to the Football League, here is this week’s round-up:
Liverpool U21 Defender Tom Brewitt Signs New Long-Term Deal
Tom Brewitt has signed a new long-term deal at Liverpool, just days after appearing on the Premier League’s list of released players.
Brewitt, 19, has progressed from the U18s to the U21s this season where has made ten appearances. After fellow defenders Daniel Cleary and Kristof Polgar were released, it presents further opportunities for Brewitt, who will play in his tenth season at the club.

Liverpool U21s Release 7 Players Including Ryan McLaughlin and Samed Yesil
Liverpool Football Club have announced that seven Academy players have been released from the club as the Premier League publishes its retained and released list.
Ryan McLaughlin is the most notable player to leave the club, whilst injury stricken forward Samed Yesil also leaves the club after his loan spell with FC Luzern.
Central defenders Daniel Cleary, Kristof Polgar and goalkeeper Andrew Firth have departed, whilst midfield duo Will Marsh and Alex O’Hanlon complete the list of released players.

Liverpool U18s Release 4 Players Ahead Of The 2016/17 Season
Josh Dobie is one of four Liverpool U18 players to be released, as Neil Critchley starts planning for the new 2016/17 season. Midfielders Callum Nicholas and Jack Watts are also among the list of released players published by the Premier League. Goalkeeper Owen Wheeler is the fourth and final youngster to be released from the Kirkby Academy.

Toni Gomes And Taiwo Awoniyi On International Duty For Portgual U18s And Nigeria U23s
Toni Gomes featured for Portugal U18s as they began the 2016 Lisbon International Tournament with a 2-1 victory over Austria. The Liverpool U18s striker, who netted more than 15 goals this season, will look for game time when the hosts face Czech Republic and Russia in the final group games of the tournament.

Elsewhere, Awoniyi featured for Nigeria U23s side in the Toulon Tournament. The on-loan striker played 76 minutes in the 1-0 defeat to hosts South Korea before making a bigger impact in their 6-2 defeat to Denmark. Awoniyi, who has been linked with a move to Swedish side Kalmar, started and played 59 minutes in their final game, a 3-1 win against Honduras.

Former Liverpool U21 Goalkeeper Yusuf Mersin Signs For Crawley Town
Yusuf Mersin has signed for Crawley Town just over two years since his release from Liverpool. The Turkish goalkeeper, 21, moved to Liverpool as a highly-rated prodigy but competition for places restricted his game time. After falling behind Danny Ward and Ryan Fulton in the pecking order, he was released in May 2014, and signs for Crawley two years later.
