Sheyi Ojo is set to miss Liverpool’s pre-season tour of the USA after he was included in England’s 18-man squad for this month’s UEFA European Under-19 Championships. The winger, 19, impressed in his breakthrough season with the first-team, scoring once and creating four assists in 11 games for Jurgen Klopp’s side. His form has led to Ojo being called up by England Under-19 manager Aidy Boothroyd alongside former Liverpool midfielder Jordan Rossiter for the Championships in Germany.

England have been drawn in a group alongside France, Holland and Croatia with their final group game coming against the latter on 18 July.

Should the Three Lions progress any further, then Ojo will not be present when the first-team squad fly out to the USA after their friendly with Huddersfield Town on 20 July.

The semi-finals will be played on 21 July with the final of the tournament taking place three days later.

Liverpool’s first game on the American tour will be against Chelsea on 28 July followed by two games against Serie ‘A’ sides AC Milan and AS Roma on 31 July and 2 August respectively. Ojo’s absence will present an opportunity for Lazar Markovic and Ryan Kent to impress Jurgen Klopp.

Markovic spent last season on loan at Turkish giants Fenerbahce whilst Kent featured for League One side Coventry City, and has been linked with a move to newly promoted Championship side Barnsley.

However, with Ojo set to miss the tour, any possible talks over a move away for Kent will likely be delayed to give Kent an opportunity with the first-team.
