Harry Wilson scored his first goal since making his injury comeback as Liverpool U23s strolled to a 4-1 victory over Welsh Premier League side Rhyl on Sunday. Wilson opened the scoring before Brooks Lennon and Ryan Kent gave Michael Beale’s side a 3-0 lead at the interval. Sam Hart extended the visitors’ lead before Rhyl trialists Webb pulled a goal back with ten minutes to go but Liverpool seal their first win of their pre-season schedule.

Liverpool started off the much better side, with Kent hitting the woodwork in the opening stages before Wilson put the young Reds ahead within 15 minutes.

Former Barcelona ‘B’ defender Juan Manuel Garcia was one of two trialists in the Liverpool line-up, and it was the left-back’s pin-point cross which set up American Lennon for the visitors’ second.

Lennon then turned provider in the 33rd minute when he found Kent and the winger, who has been linked with a loan move to Barnsley, fired past Michael Askew at the second attempt to put his side in control.

Despite making numerous changes at the break, Liverpool did not stop the intensity to their game. U18s striker Toni Gomes went close before Jack Dunn had his shot cleared off the line following neat play from Adam Phillips.

Bolton U21 defender Nathaniel Phillips also came on at half-time as he looked to impress Beale and the coaching staff.

Jordan Williams then replaced Adam Phillips for his first game in ten months after recovering from a cartilage issue in his knee whilst on-loan at Swindon Town.

Sam Hart added a fourth shortly after and the U23s will look for back-to-back wins when they travel to Celtic on Wednesday.

Liverpool U23s: Kelleher; Whelan (Lewis 45’), Jones, Brewitt (Phillips 45’), Juanma (Maguire 45’); Phillips (Williams 59’), Virtue (Kane 59’); Wilson (Gomes 45’), Lennon, Dunn (Hart 59’); Kent.
