Neil Critchley’s Liverpool U18s’ 100% start to the season came to an abrupt end after a humiliating 7-0 defeat to Manchester City on Saturday morning. Phil Foden netted a brace whilst goals from Joe Hardy and Luke Bolton gave Manchester City a commanding lead at half-time, as Lee Carsley’s side were seeking another Premier League title. Hardy grabbed his second and City’s fifth of the afternoon before second-half substitute Ian Carlo Poveda scored two goals to inflict a heavy defeat on the Reds.

Neil Critchley made two changes from the 2-1 victory at Manchester United last week, with the Head Coach giving full debuts to Rafael Camacho and Jordan Hunter.

Despite this, Liverpool fielded a strong side which included exciting forwards Yan Dhanda, Bobby Adekanye and young defenders Conor Masterson and Michel Parker.

Unfortunately for the Reds defence, minor errors in the backline were punished by a clinical Manchester City front line, who netted their opening four goals in the first 20 minutes of the game.

Hardy, who found game time few and far between last season, was replaced by Carlo Poveda after scoring City’s fifth and the substitute netted two more goals to round off a superb performance from Manchester City.

The Reds had only conceded one goal prior to kick-off, but now have a goal difference of -2.

They drop four places to fifth in the U18 Premier League and will look to climb back up the table when they host fourth-placed Stoke on Saturday 10 September.
