Glen McAuley scored twice as Liverpool U18s made it back-to-back wins with a 2-1 victory at West Bromwich Albion on Saturday afternoon. The Irishman netted his sixth goal of the season in just four starts as Neil Critchley’s side started off the better of the two sides. The hosts pulled a goal back shortly before half-time, but the young Reds held on for the three points, but they stay in fifth, four points behind the leaders Manchester United.Head Coach Critchley made three changes from the side that beat Newcastle last week, with Caoimhin Kelleher replacing Kamil Grabara in goal as the pair continue their rotation.

Kris Owens made his first start of the season as he replaced U16 youngster Abdi Sharif whilst Rhian Brewster came in for Toni Gomes.

Despite the result, the U18s manager was not content with his side’s display, but highlighted the standout performance of Republic of Ireland U17 international McAuley.

He told liverpoolfc.com: “We can play a lot better but we’ll take the win. Glen McAuley did really well again and scored two good goals and he could have had four himself.”

Liverpool can go as high as second if they beat ninth-placed Derby County next week and other results go their way.

Liverpool U18s: Kelleher; Lewis, Masterson, Johnston, Owens; Coyle, Hunter; Camacho, Brewster (Simmonds 80’), Dhanda; McAuley.
